![]() ![]() Vance plied many trades for short stretches: a bell-hop (a "miserable year"), in a cannery, and on a gold dredge, before entering the University of California, Berkeley where, over a six-year period, he studied mining engineering, physics, journalism and English. With the death of his grandfather, the Vance's family fortune nosedived, and Vance was forced to leave junior college and work to support himself, assisting his mother when able. ![]() This early setting formed Vance's love of the outdoors, and allowed him time to indulge his passion as an avid reader. With the early separation of his parents, Vance's mother moved young Vance and his siblings to Vance's maternal grandfather's California ranch near Oakley in the delta of the Sacramento River. Vance's early childhood was spent in San Francisco. I found it of particular interest that Vance, like myself, spent part of his childhood in the areas of San Francisco and Sacramento: The individual novels found in the Tales of the Dying Earth are certainly amongst them. Many of his works are considered classics. ![]() Jack Vance is one of the most prolific and popular science fiction and fantasy writers of our time. It was equally thrilling to see Ava, who had such a rough upbringing in the not so well off area go from a quite girl to becoming a strong woman who despite losing her father and her mother discovers so much about her past which makes her future that much more promising finally knowing who she is. will enormously ease you to look guide Slated By Teri Terry as you such as. It was amazing seeing Sam go from this quite girl who has no interest in what happens in the world outside of her bubble to someone who fights for the rights of youth and defies her own father and the government who she has always stood behind. ![]() It was action-packed, filled with such amazing writing and a fantastically driven plot that had me wanting to constantly keep reading to find out what happened to our dual point of view characters, Sam and Ava as well as the rest of the secondary characters and the youth of the novel. Now I have had Slated, the first book in this series, on my bookshelf for years but haven't gotten around to ever reading it so when I was offered a copy of Fated to read I jumped at the chance and what an exilarating read Fated was.
