![]() ![]() ![]() I can’t understand why Oprah picked this book for her book club especially after witnessing how upset she was as James Frey for “A Million Little Pieces. It is one thing to draw on another book for inspiration and to allude to it in an original piece of work, but to steal every aspect (including the father’s ghost telling the son what really happened to him) is just stealing. In my mind, it helped to explain how he was able to have such a close connection with the dogs since they are able to make up their own language in a sense.Īs you can probably tell, I did not like this book at all. Claude did not even seem to like the dog business so I do not know why he would have wanted to take it over.Īs for Edgar being mute, I think it was just a detail to make the story more interesting and the characters and relationships more enjoyable. ![]() He was stealing the throne from Hamlet’s father. In one of Edgar's favorite passages from The Jungle Book, Bagheera tells Mowgli that he was once a caged animal, until 'one night I felt that I was Bagheera - the Panther - and no man's plaything, and I broke the silly lock with one blow of my paw and came away.' There is a dialectic in Edgar's story that is similarly concerned with the ideas. The parallels are obvious however, in Hamlet the reason for the uncle’s actions were made clear. I read the front and back of the book and everything in between and never saw any mention of Hamlet. In my opinion, this book was a modern version of a great book without giving credit where credit is due. I don’t think that reading Hamlet will give you any answers. ![]()
